People often ask me what does Power Mastery have to do with business?
My answer: Everything.
Power Mastery is the wisdom of maintaining, enhancing and knowing how to truly command your personal power, in any given situation, as opposed to having power drained from you due to power depleting behaviour and choices, or what I refer to as having Power Leaks.
To give you a brief insight, Power Mastery is at the heart of everything you do and underlies the degree of success you experience, how much energy you have within your business even how much energy you have after you leave the office, how much creativity you can tap into, your relationship with staff members and suppliers - this even includes the competition - how much you can scale your business without exhaustion, the confidence you have in yourself, how big you play and how you show up - the list literally goes on and on.
After fifteen years of coaching, healing and working with business leaders and entrepreneurs from all walks of life, I’ve seen the same dysfunctional power patterns showing up, whether I am working with someone from the USA, South America, New Zealand or Australia, the themes are universal.
So, if you’re feeling like you’re not bringing your A game to your business and leadership, then it might be because of these small, easy to make power depleting behaviours which are causing the Power Leaks.
The good news is once you’re aware of them, these Power Leaks are super easy to fix and can be switched into Power Mastery actions instead.
When you know it wasn’t. Neither were the pyramids. Nor the Great Wall of China. So why then do you insist on acting like your business empire should be built in a day? Why the unnecessary overwhelm?
Look, I know it’s easy to look at other entrepreneurs who have had so called “overnight success” and wonder where you are going wrong or why its taking you so much longer but if you looked closer, you will see that you are being shown the podium results - and none of the actual blood sweat and tears that got them there.
It’s kind of like looking at an Olympic swimmer receiving a gold medal and thinking they just woke up that morning, born that way. One word: unrealistic. You’re not seeing the work that went in behind the glorious feat, the training in the pool for an average of 3 hours a day or longer since the age of ten and getting to the pool at 5am every day just for the daily practice, seven days a week, year in and year out.
If you want something to last and go the distance, then it will take time but it’s how you use the time that can make all the difference. The things we marvel at from the past, were built by visionaries who knew this secret; it’s important that you build stuff that is going to last and make an impact.
This applies to pyramids as much as it relates to business empires.
Try working to smaller chunks of time like the ancients did, using three months or 90 day focus.
According to Herodotus, the Ancient Egyptians built the pyramids using gangs of 100,000 workers rotating on 3 month intervals to keep production high.
So if you break up your whole year into three month sections and focus on just what is required in those three months, you’ll actually end up achieving four times more than you normally would.
To do this, simply work out what your end goal is, then reverse engineer what you need to do to achieve it, break it into smaller parts and work out what needs to be done within each quarter, then work accordingly and focus. Keyword: focus.
And you will see your business empire become reality, built block by block.
Now before you say you don’t have the luxury of taking time off, I’m going to say that even if you can’t do this, whether for financial or time reasons, I can guarantee that you are still be able to take more time out than you currently are.
If you don’t allow your body, mind and soul to relax and recharge, to replenish the energy expenditure you make when in business and leading the charge, then the further you go and the longer you walk this path, you will find yourself hitting a wall on multiple levels, getting stuck with simple blocks, suffering from brain fog and struggling with a lack of creativity or fuel to make things happen.
This does not serve you. This does not serve your business.
Take a leaf out of Cleopatra’s book and master the art of enjoying more leisure time.
Time off can vary from having a longer holiday to a simple weekend away or even a random day off to reconnect back to who you are and what brings you joy, fun and a sense of calm away from business.
Time out can be about connecting back to nature, moving your body and getting fresh air, taking time to stretch once every hour, a walk at the beach or in the park, having more regular breaks, and depending on your business set up, it could be something fun like an impromptu office dance party or doing a simple 5-10 minute meditation to disconnect for a bit to shake your energy up so that you can get back into the zone feeling refreshed.
This is a common issue I see, especially with high achievers. It’s like an attitude of, well I should be expected to do this well or achieve these things, it’s normal so what? And then not taking the time to acknowledge what just happened or the milestone realised.
Or the win isn’t big enough - in your mind - so then it’s somehow not that important….
Celebrating your small wins on the journey of building your empire is as important as celebrating the big wins.
Here’s the thing, if you’re not celebrating your little wins, you probably also have an issue with appreciating the little wins in life, not just the little wins in business.
Pharaohs knew a thing or two about celebrating their victories and not in a small way. Public holidays, massive festivals and erecting buildings proclaiming their wins was as much about revelling in their success as it was strategic propaganda. In this case the propaganda is designed for yourself; learning to value your wins.
Good news, you don’t need to erect any buildings for your wins!
What you can do is create two win boxes, one will be your small wins and one will be your big wins. In each box, you are going to have multiple pieces of paper with one celebratory activity written on each piece of paper, that you get to do as recognition of a win.
The small wins may include getting pampered like pedicures or manicures, small time outs, going to the movies with a friend, a meal out at your favourite restaurant with your partner that is hard for you to normally get to, getting to your kids sports practice or attending an art exhibition or concert.
The big wins will be things that are just an amplified version of the small wins, it may mean an extra day off for the weekend, travelling to a tropical island for a long weekend, visiting good friends or family in another city or country, taking up the snowboarding lessons you’ve been meaning to, a full day retreat in a beauty spa or a day of golf with some friends in the middle of the week.
Basically include the things you have been meaning to do, the activities you love doings and never seem to get around to doing because you feel that you are too busy or in some way undeserving.
Then every time you have a win, whether big or small, you can go to the relevant box, close your eyes and pull out your celebratory reward. And take action on it.
Also known as the fastest way to tripping yourself up and making things harder than they need to be. You must get out of your own way.
You are often too close to your project and to your business to be objective enough.
It can be quite confronting to realise that you’re actually the one blocking your own success, holding yourself back from what you really want or what really needs to be done and it might take a frank discussion with someone who you respect enough to be able to tell you to get out of your own way.
And if they do, please listen. It can make a huge difference.
Even Pharaohs employed Viziers, who acted as a trusted advisor, confidant and a sounding board to help the Pharaoh see their potential blind spots that they may not have seen otherwise. The Pharaohs understood the value of having a different perspective from a respected advisor who served in their best interests.
Ask someone to act as your personal vizier, choose someone who is close to you and who understands what you’re trying to achieve, and ask them whether they think you are getting in your own way and where exactly they see it happening (if you don’t have a trusted vizier to talk with and would like to, go to the end of this blog for further information*)
Be prepared to receive the truth in a constructive way. From here you will be able to put strategies in place to counter it.
Often this comes down to learning to delegate better and asking for more help and support when and where you need it.
And no, it’s not weak to ask for help or delegate, it’s actually an act of a confident leader who knows where to focus their talents and energy for the betterment and growth of their empire, instead of trying to be all things, stretching themself too thin and wondering why they feel exhausted all the time.
The great thing about these four particular Power Leaks is they are all so easily reversed and can be leveraged into power enhancing behaviour so that you have a tonne more energy, happiness and empowerment in no time.
It simply comes down to the power of choice and the choice dear leader, is yours.

With running a vast empire and the obvious stresses, numerous duties and challenges that came with the position, the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt employed a sole Vizier.
The Vizier was responsible for all matters of daily life, from maintaining civil order, as well as overseeing special tasks and events and even investigating problems or discrepancies on behalf of their leader to ensuring the pharaoh's overall wellbeing on a daily basis.
Vizier's were viewed as the special advisor to the pharaoh and more often than not, this non-royal but prestigious position was bestowed upon a trusted family member in whom the pharaoh had great confidence.
Because of their power, Ancient Egyptian viziers, were expected to be law-abiding, impartial, and levelheaded. Hieroglyphs often depict the viziers wearing long, white robes; these symbolized their purity of heart and spirit.
As the Pharaoh of your personal empire, you now have the opportunity of working with your very own modern day Vizier, Dani Andersen, to help you powerfully transform and enhance your life and leadership to the highest levels possible in the same manner that was successfully utilised thousands of years ago.
