Sitting across the table, in a blue collared shirt with his arms folded, the business leader scrutinised me through narrowed eyes, “So, you’re saying that I am exhausted from leaking my power... and part of that is because of old beliefs?”
I watched his body tense slightly with my response, “Absolutely.”
The man sitting before me was a kind and gentle man, someone who was very giving by nature and who had also built up a hugely successful, multi-million dollar business around him.
He was respected and adored by his staff and clients and was a salt of the earth kind of character.
Physically, he was in good shape and had maintained a good diet and exercise regime but felt that it still wasn’t doing enough.
His instincts were right, of course, and I could sense the Power Leaks around him that, had he not been maintaining himself physically, it would have been a lot worse.
What this business leader really wanted but hadn’t articulated, was to experience more joy and even receive some reciprocity from those who benefitted most from his charitable nature.
Adjusting his position in the chair, he leaned back, his arms still crossed, “What sort of old beliefs?”
My intuition kicked in as I allowed the information to permeate me.
“The ones that tell you you’re not enough and that no matter what you do, it will never be enough. The ones that tell you to give and give and give and not ask for any help or anything in return. The ones that are driving you hard all of the time and making you feel like you have to keep everyone happy. To name a few.”
The energy shifted slightly, as he diverted his eyes away from mine, staring at the floor as if to search for a reply.
I gave him the space he needed to integrate what I had just said.
We sat in silence for a good minute, before he let out a long sigh and replied quietly, “Thank you,” tears brimming in his eyes, as he met my gaze, “Thank you for your honesty and for understanding me. I have been going through... shall we say... some turmoil. I have a staff member who I am having real problems with and up until now they have been loyal, so it has come as a shock and it’s been getting messy, it's going to probably end up in court which I really didn't want to do and the business is growing again, faster than I can keep up with, which is good of course but demanding too... then I have to go home and deal with a battlefield there, because my relationship is off-track. I feel like my wife doesn’t truly appreciate what I do. And everything I do is for her and my family but she can't see that."
He continued, “It feels like the longest time since I have been able to be truly heard by someone and without judgement. I can’t believe I am getting all emotional!” He wiped his tears away with the back of his wrist and smiled sheepishly, “I'm guess I'm just used to working through things by myself but it takes a toll too. And I actually haven’t had anyone to talk to, that I’ve felt safe enough to offload to and share what challenges I’m going through and that actually gets it… Well until now. Who would’ve thought huh? Thank you.”
This kind of experience is pretty normal for me and my clients.
Many of the business leaders I have worked with over the years have expressed this sort of sentiment, of being heard and feeling safe enough to open up with where they are at and the challenges they are facing.
Especially leaders, who feel like they should know everything.
Be two miles ahead of everyone else.
Have all the answers.
Showing any type of vulnerability is still seen as a kryptonite-like weakness by many business leaders.
So, I am always humbled when leaders share with me because, not often do they allow themselves "the luxury" to be vulnerable.
We then discussed strategies that this business leader could put in place which would make a world of difference to his energy levels and also strategies to find new ways of working with the relationships he had, at home and in business.
Of course, he could have taken the typical Lone Wolf approach and gone it alone, figuring things out for himself which he had admitted to doing in the past and it would have taken a lot longer for him, because he’s too close to the situation.
This path would also have made him feel more isolated and more exhausted by the day, which means his performance as a leader would have suffered too, holding him back from what he wanted both professionally and personally.
By opening up and in doing so, he came away from the experience feeling lighter, more revitalized and crystal clear about what steps he needed to take to get back into his power and move forward fearlessly.

With running a vast empire and the obvious stresses, numerous duties and challenges that came with the position, the Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt employed a sole Vizier.
The Vizier was responsible for all matters of daily life, from maintaining civil order, as well as overseeing special tasks and events and even investigating problems or discrepancies on behalf of their leader to ensuring the pharaoh's overall wellbeing on a daily basis.
Vizier's were viewed as the special advisor to the pharaoh and more often than not, this non-royal but prestigious position was bestowed upon a trusted family member in whom the pharaoh had great confidence.
Because of their power, Ancient Egyptian viziers, were expected to be law-abiding, impartial, and levelheaded. Hieroglyphs often depict the viziers wearing long, white robes; these symbolized their purity of heart and spirit.
As the Pharaoh of your personal empire, you now have the opportunity of working with your very own modern day Vizier, Dani Andersen, to help you powerfully transform and enhance your life and leadership to the highest levels possible in the same manner that was successfully utilised thousands of years ago.
